I ain’t scared..best thing is the shape of the ice cubes, not half moons that serve as ice dams. The one in the lower freezer pumps out some serious ice, larger than the door cubes..

Kitchenaide is great. I’ve had different appliances including a refrigerator for 30+ years with no repairs.

I have an older-model GE that was in my house when I bought it 16/17-years ago. I recently had the water pump/valve for the icemaker and water dispenser replaced and the repair guy who replaced it told me to keep the fridge (I had mentioned my thinking of maybe getting a new one). He said all of the new ones are trouble. He said he gets calls on them constantly.

And there I was, thinking that the GE was trouble.  I guess in respect to the REALLY old fridges it is. My parents have an old fridge/freezer that they bought either in the 1960s or 1970s and it is still running. They keep it in a shop building.

I have had to do some work on the GE in the past. It, and pretty much all newer fridges, operates much like cars do. There is a computer board with sensors tied back into it. The sensors are situated in various locations around the fridge, reporting temps and what-not to the computer, which in turn dictates if/when it needs to start or stop cooling. I have had to replace a sensor at least once. A repair guy replaced the computer board one time some years ago, and it was done under warranty (which was actually expired, but they honored it anyway). The pump/valve for the water to the ice maker and water dispenser has been replaced twice in the ~17 years I have owned it, the most recent time being within the past 3-4 months.

I guess if one has to buy a new fridge I would start with something like Consumer Reports and see what they have to say. Who knows... it might be better in this day and time to spring for one of those really expensive ones just to get quality... if even that is applicable with them.
