If I remember correctly, there was a story going at that time that the team wasn't washing their uniforms throughout the entire CWS as a good luck thing. I bet those things were good and ripe by the time of the championship game.

I looked, yesterday, at the 1990 CWS bracket. I forgot that UGA lost the opening game of the CWS to Stanford. This article has all of the regional brackets and the CWS bracket. It looks like they didn't have super-regionals back then.

Looks to me like they beat Mississippi State in the opener of the CWS

Interesting. One thing I did notice in looking at the 1990 regionals is that there were only 48 teams participating... 8 regionals with 6 teams in each regional (that's odd).

Now there are (I think?) 16 regionals with 4 teams in each, rounding out the 64 teams, which is more what I would have expected.

They need to go ahead and expand to 128 teams in the regionals.  Everyone needs to get a trophy and feel good about themselves.

I forgot about that part, too. It was double-elimination to get to the championship, though, which is interesting.
