How bad was that anthem?

the entire song is online for you to listen to. It was bad, but it wasn't like she started singing Rocky Top or something. I think the whole issue post-song is that she was given a gigantic moment to grow her career and build her brand and instead of focusing on nailing everything to perfection, she instead, stepped up to the microphone drunk and butchered the opportunity. It was hard to listen to, but not Rosanne Barr hard. She seems to have recognized the screw up and is heading into treatment. We shall see what comes of it.

I heard a music coach say that they had autotune connected, and if you get thrown on autotune, as one would experience inside of a stadium, without in-ear monitors, she was cooked. She would try to correct her own pitch based on the autotuned note and the auto tune would also try to correct it. Being drunk probably didn't help.
Singers always say the national anthem is a hard song to sing because if you start too high, you'll never be able to hit the high notes. That rendition was crazy bad, and I'd never heard of the girl before Monday night.

I’ve sung the National Anthem for the Chattanooga Lookouts a couple of times. No music, just my big mouth.
Both times got many compliments on a wonderful rendition. The first time the Lookouts office sent me a TYN for a great performance. My only secret to singing The Star Spangled Banner is to start so the second word “say”, the 3rd note, is at or very near the bottom of my vocal range so I can easily the high notes at “rockets red glare”.
