This is interesting. I saw something within a high school football schedule.

I noticed that Milton high school has a team called Seckinger High School on their schedule, as a region opponent. I have never heard of them, and began checking to see who they are. What I am finding is pretty interesting.

It is a new high school in Buford, Georgia (of all places). It opened in 2022. They played a non-region football schedule in both 2022 an 2023. This is their first year as part of a region. And, boy howdy, are they in a tough region. Their region opponents will be:

Roswell (always a powerhouse)
Milton (reigning state champion)
Gainesville (definitely a current powerhouse)
Johns Creek
Chattahoochee (also a strong program)
Lanier
More so, though, what I found interesting about this school is what I found online:

Pioneering the Future of Education

Seckinger HIgh School sits on 84.6 acres at Sardis Church Road and houses 142 instructional units within its 500,000 SF for up to 2,375 students. The design supports the initiative to create a wholly AI-focused learning experience. Technology education ranges from robotics to simulated intelligent behaviors.

Seckinger High School (SKG) proudly opened its doors on August 3, 2022, distinguishing itself as the nation’s first AI-themed educational institution, committed to cultivating the next generation of technology pioneers and innovators, ensuring students graduate with the skills and knowledge to thrive in a rapidly evolving future.

I doubt the student body I saw last week while driving by on orientation night will master AI skills any time in their lifetime, much last as ninth graders.

They can think about that when they play Roswell, Milton, Gainesville, etc., in football.

Is it a magnet school? Usually those type schools draw from a larger pool…or recruit students, if you will.

Seckinger kids mostly came from former Mill Creek district.

They’re pretty good in basketball.

Not sure how they did in football and other sports last year.

Lived around the corner from it before escaping Gwinnett. It’s almost across the interstate (85) from Mill Creek. Took students mostly from Mill Creek as said above. Some from Mt. View. It’s in an odd pocket and a bit surprising they built it where they did. Basically, it’s a school that made Hamilton Mill sub about half or more of Mill Creek. Seckinger pulls from Chateau Elan back to Hamilton Mill rd. (A few subs are south of Hamilton Mill also.

If they started up like most schools, their first year they would have only had a 9th grade, 2nd year only 9th and 10th, etc., etc. They will only have a senior class when their 4th year begins. That said, they got routed, badly, their first year (understandable), playing a non-region schedule.

Peachtree Ridge (Region 7-AAAAAAA) L 0-60
East Forsyth L 0-48
Shiloh (Region 8-AAAAAA) L 0-55
Forsyth Central (Region 6-AAAAAAA) L 0-35
Oglethorpe County (Region 5-A Division I) L 0-35
Duluth (Region 7-AAAAAAA) L 12-34
Berkmar (Region 7-AAAAAAA) L 0-13

It got a little better in 2023

Holy Innocents (Region 6-AAAA) L 6-46
Shiloh (Region 8-AAAAAA) L 24-30
