that's probably not a bad idea for them to sign someone that is serviceable as a backup while Garropolo is out. There's going to be someone available after the final cuts are made (could even be someone like Jake Fromm). I'd bet my 1984 Air Jordans SMFB is on the roster, but he clearly isn't ready and didn't do himself any favors being out of football for 9 months.
