I've watched This Old House my whole life. Was fascinated by it, and attribute most of my handyman skills (which are strong as new rope, btw) to the hours I've spent watching this show.
Seeing the news of the passing of this guy was a bummer. Roger first appeared on the show in the first season back in 1979, back before Bob Villa became a real jerk, and subsequently became their go-to landscape guy. He stepped away from the show a few years ago for health reasons. It was clear he had a back problem or something.

Always enjoyed that guy. He had the quintessential yankee accent.
RIP Treeman.

Watching that show is a good reminder that I should always "call the man"

The thing that I've loved about it is that they make it look easy, but if it really isn't they tell you why, and how difficult it can be, and show you a tool or a jig that will make it easier. I used to fix stuff like broken outlets or broken tiles or toilet valves all the time while I was a kid growing up in a 30 year old house. My dad didn't have any real handyman skills, so I just did things. I still do them to this day. I bought my first house in 2001, and I basically gutted and renovated the whole thing. Only thing I had to call a contractor for was the granite countertops. Even changed an electric water heater by myself one night when I got home from work and found the original leaking all over the floor. Probably saved myself a couple grand that night.

Wow! Too young. Was always amazed at how hard he worked with such a bum back. Hurt me watching him walk.
He looked a lot like I guy I was stationed with at Walter Reed. Big guy, fun to be around.
Hate it died so young. Thanks for sharing.

He was one of my favorites on the show. Too many good people are dying these days.
