This is a history of ALL college football in the state of Georgia. Just an initial cursory look into the book reveals several very interesting tidbits.
First... I guess we all knew... UGA was the first college football program in the state. But what I didn't know was the second program in the state....
The Mercer Bears.
They actually played (and lost to) UGA in 1892.
The third member of the 19th-century football club in Georgia was the Golden Tornado of the Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta.
In Tech's first-ever football game they lost to Mercer, 12-6. A Wikipedia page says that Tech went by the name, "Blacksmiths". This book says they were the Golden Tornado (??).
Lots of interesting stuff like that. Very cool Christmas gift!
