Question for Folks in the Insurance Bidnes
#1
have had Alstate home, car, & umbrella for about 40 years, agent just retired and sold his agency to some nameless/faceless multi outlet agency who hasn't bothered to reach out to me other than tell me my premium is due and if I don't pay on the exact date I will be hit with late charges, nice, I am never late! So I am going to look around, I was going to get a quote from Geico, don't want to go to Progressive because I don't like the name and supposedly Soros owns them, heard the State Farm are asses when it comes to claims and I do not qualify for USAA, any comments on places to look for quotes, Allstate has been very good on handling the few claims I have made but the prices are increasing rapidly lately wo making any claims

All I know is prices are going up everywhere...

I stayed with one company WAY too long..overpaid for probably 30 years to Allstate. Shop around..at least every other year.

Maybe find a good independent agent and them a shot with the various companies they represent.
Cool

I'm an independent agent and the last two years have been nuts with increases on the personal and business side. DO NOT skip on any coverage for price. Auto deductibles don't move the needle any more and make sure you have either guaranteed replacement cost on your home or extended replacement cost. If your roof is over 10 years old, your options will be limited. Auto Owners will take a roof over 10 years old but if it's five or under they want proof. All of the companies are being very picky right now. Good luck!

My home got hit by a tornado last year. I can tell you that you want the best claim service and if that means paying more, pay it. Neighbor's house also got hit and needed a new roof and State Farm fought them all the way. My neighbor paid for it out of pocket and then filed paperwork to sue them in small claims court for breach of contract before they finally agreed to reimburse blaming it on the adjuster. It was a nightmare. My roofer said Allstate and State Farm are horrible when it comes to homeowner's claims.

If you are a member of Costco get a quote. I had good claims service with them on my daughter's car. Had good service with Farmer's on my house/roof claim.

Georgia Farm Bureau was always good to me, and when i moved in 1987 i changed to Virginia Farm Bureau. Yes, cost is going up everywhere, but they have been good to me. 3 years ago, a really bad hail storm came through here and did a lot of damage to our 2 story 2,000 sq ft home. Va. Farm Bureau wrote a check to me for 47 Grand to have our home repaired. We litterly got a new home, new siding, roof, gutters, and windows.............

Thanks for the replies everybody. didn't think of Costco happen to be going there tomorrow, response on claims is the most important as well as full and complete coverage. My neighbor has Allstate and he is having a hell of a time getting them to cover a water leak issue. I never had a problem with them but the times must be a changin!

I wish I lived in the same neighborhood as Smokin so I could self insure

Be thankful you are not looking for homeowners insurance in Florida.  Nationwide just non-renewed me after 30+ years of having all of my insurance, home, auto, umbrella, etc., with no claims.  There are very few options available here,  especially if your roof is over 10 years old.  The largest insurer in FL is Citizens, which is state run, and in my opinion the insurer of last resort.  My house is wood frame with gable ends and I have done everything possible to harden it against the weather, including 135 mph shingles, impact windows and doors, hurricane rated garage door, C-Bracing the gable ends, Hardie Plank siding, etc. passed the 4 point (plumbing, electrical, roof, HVAC) and wind mitigation inspections with no corrective action required.  None of it mattered to Nationwide.  They definitely aren’t on your side regardless of what their marketing jingle says.  I found insurance, but what a hassle.  I now only have my umbrella policy with Nationwide, and will change providers when the policy expires in Jan.
