I still don't know how folks drink beer when they are out in the hot sun.  Combination of feeling a buzz and the heat makes me nauseated thinking about it, lol.  But $10 isn't bad compared to other amusement parks, concerts, or sporting events.

All about what you enjoy. 

Went last Dec. for the first time since grad night in 98.  Just me and my gf.  We had a blast.  Spent 3 days going between the 4 parks. 

We then decided to go to Disneyland in June, a birthday trip for her (her idea).  Again, had a blast going around those 2 parks for 2.5 days. 

Will be going back in a couple of weeks for an after hours Halloween Party evening.  Only doing one evening as kids will be going this time.  We are looking forward to it.

Nice that these posts can exist without some asshole coming in here to accuse you of supporting an entity that is set on destroying our country. If you like it, enjoy it. We took the boy once during his childhood and that was enough for my wallet.

It's been 28 years since we took our daughter on the one and only trip I'll make down there. Spent a ton of money and my daughter would have had as good a time if we had stayed in any hotel with a pool. All she wanted to do was play in the pool, she couldn't have cared less about the parks.

Honestly, I don't understand how adults can love that place like some of them do. I can understand kids getting excited about it but the appeal to an adult is lost on me.

In a word, escapism. 

At the end of the day, whatever form of entertainment one chooses to partake in is simply a form of escaping from every day life.  Stresses, worries, responsibilities, etc.  Something to unplug and unwind from.  Luckily there's a lot of variety to choose from and I personally enjoy a lot of different ones.  There's a lot of people who don't understand why people would spend their money supporting a college football team made up of kids, but here we are. 

To me, Disney is popular for the same reasons places like Chic-fil-a and Publix are doing good.  They treat their customers right.  As a roller coaster fan, I've been to a few theme parks and non of them compare to the experience at Disney.  As the old adage says "you get what you pay for".  The way they treat the guests is awesome, unlike say Six Flags.  When you are there they do a great job of immersing you into that world.  The same concept as reading a book or watching a movie/show, except it's brought to life. 

Me personally, I'm still a kid at heart, so I geek out on stuff there.  My gf took me to Savi's workshop in Galaxy's edge and signed me up to build my own light saber when we went.  I was like a kid in a candy store.  I have it mounted on my wall, with my UGA diploma and other UGA paraphernalia, and take it down regularly to turn it on and twirl it around for a bit.  There's nothing wrong with having fun and enjoying life.  I've done a lot of things I enjoy in my life, this is just one more of those things.

Then the engineer in me is as captivated at how the place is built and run.  The efficiency is amazing. I timed it when I was there, one of their more popular rides is the Tron Light Cycle coaster.  It was sending a train off every 15 seconds.  By comparison, when I was at Six Flags with Lil Viper earlier this year it was taking 5+ minutes for each train on Scream machine.  Granted, they only had 1 going.  But even that.  When you get on a ride at Disney, they have an area where people unload from the train that's separate from where you load.  And when the train empties and moves forward to the loading area, it's not just that they let off the brakes and let it roll forward.  They have magnetic impulse trains where they can move it from one location to the other in about 3-5 seconds. This efficiency allows the lines to keep moving.  Yeah, it's a "long" wait at times, but the line barely stops moving because of this. 

Then there's the food.  My gf and I both like to try different things.  We walked around for 3 days at 4 different parks and tried a lot of different things.  We weren't interested in sit down dinners there, we just got the smaller portion stuff and usually split it every hour or 2.  Kinda like munching on different things all day, while at the same time walking it all off. 

I know you didn't really ask, but I'm bored and thought I'd throw my $.02 in.  Is it something I would do every year if I only had the disposable income to do one thing?  No I wouldn't.  I'm fortunate enough now that I have the means to do that.  At some point soon I'm going to either be doing a rockies roadtrip up to glacier national park or one from Rome, Italy up into the swiss alps.
