Thinking about all these poor folk without power, who knows what else.

The municipal water systems have to be an issue in at least some areas. That is major-serious. Although in the big picture of things, having no internet access is somewhat trivial. But in another sense it is a big deal, considering how much of our lives have moved to being carried out on the internet. I do pretty much 100% of my banking on the internet. Getting email can be critical sometimes. Nowadays a lot of telephone services are running across the internet.

My only try-to-compare scenario was when the big winter storm in March 1993 rolled through. I was living inside the city limits in Rockmart at the time, and we lost power for three days. Some people out in the county areas were without power for more than a week. I can tell you that I was one thankful hombre when that power crew from South Carolina restored our power at about midnight that cold Monday night. Their truck was parked at the end of our street, with 3-4 guys sitting in the truck. We walked out there and gave them several boxes of Girl Scout cookies as a way to at least try to say "Thank you". Those guys tore into those things. They were probably working unbelievable hours. I bet those Samosas and Thin Mints were tasting mighty good.

Prayers going up for these folk dealing with this stuff right now, and prayers going up for those fleets of power crews pouring into the areas where all of the damage has taken place.

I was in Evans yesterday. It's a mess. My son is there and no power. Might be out all week. Parents in Statesboro, no power or water. Don't know what theyre gonna do. They'll probably be up quicker than Evans is though.

If you read that Survivor Series I recommended up above, you begin to understand how quickly society devolves into a predator/prey situation in a major emergency.  Those that are prepared and just want to be left alone, must be able to defend with extreme force what they have.
