I've noticed the Joro spiders everywhere this Autumn...

Both my wife and me have accidentally walked through webs outside our house in the last week or so. I've never had this many webs on my property.

I've read that they probably got here from Asia 10-15 years ago and continue to grow in population here.

The attached article is from earlier this year. There are more recent articles but I chose this one because it points to a future continued increase and it is a UGA source.

Nothing to be afraid. We just gotta get used to them; especially in the more populous areas.

I ASSumed they were writing spiders, but they are different..the webs especially..

They have been moving north. I've seen a handful around my house around the Johns Creek area, but not nearly as many as a couple of years ago. The whole region looked like it was decorated for Halloween from August to the first freeze.

Same here…more this year than ever before. I just hope the webs catch mosquitoes because this has been the worst year ever for them here.

Funny you say that. My wife and I have been talking about all of these big spider webs and spiders that are on our front porch, next to our back deck, between the Crepe Myrtles and the AC units, etc., etc.

One keeps building a web across the front steps coming up to our porch. My wife has torn it down a couple of times and the little rascal has a new web back up within a day or two. We were wondering if the USPS gal had walked into it when putting a package on our front porch.

The webs are also tinted GOLD...I walk the edge of the yard near the trees/shrubs checking for them every couple of days and use a long branch to tear them down (and smush the architect, if possible ). The webbing wrapped around the stick will be a very shiny/shimmery gold.
