ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia junior linebacker Jalon Walker has been tapped as the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following the Bulldogs' 30-15 win at No. 1 Texas, according to a Maxwell Football Club announcement Tuesday. Walker, a native of Salisbury, N.C., earned Bednarik Player of the Week honors after a historic performance in a huge Southeastern Conference matchup against the Longhorns.  Walker recorded seven tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery, all in the first half of the game.  His performance was especially remarkable as he became the first player in the last 20 years to register three sacks and seven tackles in a game against the AP No. 1 team.

ATHENS, Ga. --- Bulldog head coach Kirby Smart has been named the Bear Bryant Awards Coach of the Week following Georgia's 30-15 rout of No. 1 Texas in Austin, according to an announcement from the American Heart Association and presented by Accenture Tuesday. Smart, whose UGA teams are now 3-1 versus top-ranked opposition, collected his 100th career win after holding the Longhorns to just 259 yards of total offense, including only 29 on the ground on 27 carries.

ATHENS, Ga. --- After being included on the Ray Guy Award's Ray's 8 earlier this week, junior punter Brett Thorson has now been named the Punter of the Week, according to an announcement from the Augusta Sports Council and award Tuesday. Thorson, a native of Melbourne, Australia, punted four times for an average of 54 yards (season long of 58 yarder), including two inside the 20 and only one touchback, during the 30-15 rout of No. 1 Texas in Austin. His first punt went out of bounds at the Texas 13 and his second one went to the Texas 10 with a minus-3-yard return.  In fact, the Bulldogs are tied for the national lead in Punt Return Defense, allowing an average of minus-3 yards per game. Thorson's net punting average against the Longhorns was 50.3 thanks in part to three that sailed past the 50-yard mark.  The Bulldogs are ranked fourth nationally in Net Punting at 45.1.

ATHENS, Ga. --- Bulldog junior linebacker Jalon Walker has been included as one of 20 semifinalists for the eighth annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, according to an announcement Tuesday. Walker, a native of Salisbury, N.C., is one of six semifinalists from the Southeastern Conference.  He was picked because of his demonstration of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field. Walker has played in all 36 games since the 2022 season and has five starts this year, helping the No. 2 Bulldogs compile a 34-2 record over that three-year stretch including the 2022 national championship.  He made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.0 or higher term GPA) in Spring '22 and Spring '24.  Walker is a member of the SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  In addition, he was selected for the second year in a row to be one of four SEC student-athlete voices in the Just Means More SEC ads.  Off the field, he regularly goes to local schools and reads to children, among many other community service activities.
