Smart said he's still suspended for now, and that they have to wait for the legal process to play out.  The DA has not dropped the charges (yet).

While his girlfriend withdrawing her statement is a move in a positive direction for Young, the case isn't over.   Kirby says he still has access to the training facilities and everything.

Did the girlfriend want the original charges filed, or was it out of her hands, sometimes the PoPo will step up and arrest etc if they deem foul play was at hand in situations like this..that is most likely the delay..that and the wheels of justice blah blah blah

Not sure, but if she doesn't perform as a witness because she recanted her story or told them she lied, they won't have any choice but to drop the charges.  I think she called a friend and they either showed up, or heard stuff over the phone, so that may be a factor too.  Not as strong though, because you can't really hear battery.  If he said he was going to kill her or something, that would be a bigger problem for him because that could still constitute assault.

I won’t be surprised if ACC officials drag it out into next season before eventually dropping charges.
