this playoff system won’t be around long.  Sankey ain’t happy.  He and big10 commish are in discussions to form their own playoff, or at least blow up the current model.  It’s all about the benjamins.

I hope you're right. The whole "committee" thing is absurd. There has to be some form of objective mechanism to determine who is going to play for the national championship in the top level of college football. Who is in or out of whatever playoff they end up with has to be determined by actual head to head competition on the field, not some silly committee judging teams like a beauty pageant.

Conferences are going to have to go back to divisions with division winners and then conference champions based on head to head competition.

I predicted 15 years ago that a group of schools would break away from the NCAA and form their own league. This would also eliminate any anti-trust issues since they would be a separate and competing league to the NCAA.
4 conferences of 14-16 schools each, 2 teams from each with an 8 team playoff. And Notre Dame would be forced to join a conference if they wanted to participate. TV contracts would be huge.

Taccoa, you nailed it.  This is the catalyst for the 4 corners conference, imo.

This would be the best result if it truly was a playoff with participants determined by on field results, no polls, no committees.

I'd be fine with 8 12 team conferences.  The SEC could shed Vandy, SC, Miss State and either Arky or Missouri to get to 12.  Have two 6 team divisions with 9 conference games and 3 non conference games every year.  No games allowed against FCS or any team outside of the eight major conferences.  Out of conference games would all be exciting and losing one wouldn't hurt your playoff chances because it wouldn't affect your chance of winning your conference.  The winners of the 8 conferences would play in a three round playoff.
