Should we rethink the alcohol policy?
#1
This season has been different in so many ways, but the new policy allowing for alcohol sales during the game has been a pain in the ass.  My season tickets are front row, aisle seats in the upper deck.  When people need to use the restroom, they have to pass between my seats and the retaining wall, a narrow space.  This year, bathroom usage has skyrocketed from all the drunks who now stumble over my feet both going to and returning from the bathroom and buying more beer.  They are sloppy drunk. They all say this is their last trip, but return with a new beer which causes more trips to the bathroom.

At half time Saturday, we were standing outside in the plaza and a bunch of drunk loudmouths were out there screaming obscenities about how badly we were playing.  There were children nearby who were getting an earful.  The drunk across the aisle from me was complaining loudly about every single play and I never said a word to him, but when we eventually won, he starting hugging me and jumping up and down.  What a shit show. I doubt they will reverse the policy but I sure liked it better when people would taper off their pregame drunk during the game instead of fueling it during the game.  I'm not against drinking, I just get irritated by sloppy drunks.

Thoughts?

Lots of opinions here. But, my first thought is the folks bringing in liquor is still worse than what’s being sold. All the problems I’ve seen have been from brought in liquor.

It's awful. I'm not a fan. The behavior is 10x worse than fans at a pro football or baseball game.

I drink, but I haven't had any desire to buy any beer in the stadium. I just don't have any interest in it. The constant trips to the bathrooms/beer lines is annoying as shit, and I sit dead in the middle of a row.

The yelling and language has gotten out of control. We opted to not take our kid to a game this year because of it. It's a full on R rated environment these days, not family friendly at all. I am not a saint by any means, but I know how to behave in public, even if I've had a couple or seven.

I've never been in favor of alcohol sales in the stadium, any stadium for that matter. If you can't get enough to drink to last you for a three hour game in the hours leading up to the game you might have a drinking problem. People in general are so horrible in general behavior now it makes no sense to sell them alcohol during a game when they are emotional and possibly seated near fans of the opposing team who are also drinking.

If the program can't make enough money on ticket sales, donations, parking, tailgate spots, merchandise sales, food and soft drink sales and the over the top advertising in the stadium (it is truly sickening to me how much time and space is dedicated to advertising) maybe they need to drop football as a sport.

Totally agree. I like to drink at the tailgate, but don't need to keep hammering beers during the game. Really don't like sloppy drunks, and don't like loud cursing drunks in the stands. I curse at home in my living room, but not around families at a game.

It's not like Sanford wasn't selling out because of no alcohol sales. It also puts liability on the people selling the beer if something tragic is done by a drunk they sold a beer to.

I've been in my seats for 20+ years and this is the first year that I have seen fights in the aisle I sit on and those around me. One guy and his Dad were ready to fight the world during the Auburn game. My wife nearly got hit when punches were thrown. Had that happened, I probably would be in jail for manslaughter.
At then the Tech game 2 got into it because one spilled his beer on the seats of the guy in front of him. Then there is the fat guy that is always drunk and stumbling. Every game he had a least 2 beers in each hand and stumbled down the steps an aisle. If he falls on someone he is going to hurt them espeically if it is a kid.

Whatever they are profiting on sales isn't worth ruining the fan experience of being at the game.

I wonder if there are any “penalties” involved with a drunk being thrown out of the game??  At the Masters, whoever owns that person’s tickets gets thrown off the Patron list, never to get tickets again.
Would the season ticket holder be responsible for that behavior and trouble?
I think they should.  There are plenty of people who want to get tickets and know how to behave…drink or not.

During pregame announcements, they say something effectively saying that if security is called on you, you will be ejected from the stadium and 'could' have your ticket privileges revoked for future events, or something like that.
