ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia men's tennis team defeated Georgia Tech 4-2 at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility on Tuesday evening to improve to 3-3 on the young season. Niels Ratiu/Miguel Perez Peña defeated No. 19 Krish Arora/Christophe Clement 6-4 in the doubles, the victory marked their highest ranked doubles win as a pairing. Georgia extended its lead in the all-time series against the Yellow Jackets as it now boasts a 74-18 record. Perez Peña improves to 5-0 in dual-match action this spring. He's followed by Pinto Sansano with a 5-1 record, Colby with a 3-2 record, Vulpitta with a 2-2 record, and Paulsell with a 2-3 record. Georgia moves on to the second match of a four-match home stand welcoming No. 5 Virginia to the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility on Friday at 6:00 p.m. E.T. On Sunday, the Bulldogs host another doubles header with North Carolina at 1 p.m. E.T. and Alabama State at 5 p.m. E.T.

ATHENS, Ga. – Following another historic performance against Emory last Saturday, University of Georgia redshirt senior Luca Urlando was named Southeastern Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week Tuesday afternoon, as announced by the league office. Urlando closed out his terrific dual season with four wins in No. 7 Georgia's 198-80 victory over DIII No. 3 Emory last Saturday in Athens. In the 200-yard backstroke, Urlando earned an A-cut with a new personal-best time of 1:38.18, setting a new Bauerle Pool record and posting the third-fastest time in program history. Earlier in the meet, the Sacramento native swam the first 50y freestyle of his collegiate career, earning a B-cut and becoming the No. 3 performer in program history. He also took first in the 200y IM and led off the 200y medley relay with a season-best split of 20.55, helping the team post an A-cut of 1:23.55, the fifth-fastest time in program history. With Tuesday's honor, Urlando has now been named SEC Swimmer of the Week six times during his Georgia career and four times this season. Urlando and the Bulldogs return to action as they host the SEC Swimming & Diving Championships, beginning Monday, Feb. 17 at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia jumper Skylynn Townsend has garnered Southeastern Conference Women's Freshman of the Week honors, according to a league announcement Tuesday. This marks the second consecutive week a Lady Bulldog has won a league weekly honor. Senior high jumper Elena Kulichenko was named the Women's Co-Field Athlete of the Week following the season opener. Townsend, a native of Prosper, Texas, built to a fifth triple jump of 13.30 meters/43 feet, 7 ¾ inches to take second in the triple jump at the Razorback Invitational. This season best effort moved her to No. 8 on the school's all-time top 10 list and No. 13 on the national list (top freshman). Townsend also soared 6.15m/20-2.25 in the long jump to be the second freshman finisher.

ATHENS, GA --- The Georgia Bulldogs will begin the 2025 season ranked number nine in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Preseason Top 25 poll, the newspaper announced Tuesday. Georgia's head baseball coach Wes Johnson enters his second year with a consensus preseason top 25 team. In other preseason rankings, the Bulldogs checked in at No. 4 according to Perfect Game, No. 8 by D1Baseball.com and No. 11 by Baseball America. Also, on Tuesday, Georgia pitcher Kolten Smith and outfielder/infielder Tre Phelps were named preseason All-Americans by Baseball America, and their team is selected by major league scouting directors. The 2025 baseball season opens on Valentine's Day. The Bulldogs will be on the road at UNC Wilmington where they will play Quinnipiac twice and the host Seahawks twice. Georgia's home opener is slated for Feb. 20 as part of a four-game series with University of Illinois Chicago.
