Anyone on here use walnut in their smokers?

I was just gifted this over half a pickup load of walnut.   There's another row behind this.

Nice bark, but I think it will be tough no matter how long you smoke it.

I wouldn't.

I've never smoked with it, but I do woodworking and I know the sawdust from walnut can kill some animals.  I've heard of it making horses really sick.

I don't think it will kill a human, and I'm not trying to scare you away from trying it, but from what I understand, the smoke instills a very bitter taste into the meat.

I'd stick with Oak, Hickory, or fruit woods myself.

I wish they'd made that walnut into boards, instead of cutting it into firewood lengths.  I'da brought you some cherry for your smoker and swapped it out!

I have a table made from the wood from a walnut tree that fell in a storm in my great grandparents yard in the 1930s.  It is beautiful wood.

It is some nice looking wood.  That bottom right piece has a damn owl in it.
