Man, stubborn, elderly parents are tough...

I will mention someone on the other end of the spectrum who I knew and loved. She lived to be 90, and it was a rich, wonderful, blessed 90 years for her. She was as saintly and humble a person as I have known throughout my life. She lived the last 15-20 years of her life widowed, but she was thankful for everything, every day, and she said so.

The family Christmas get-together thing... She would say like, "Whatever y'all want to do is fine by me. We've already had our time with our kids and even our grandkids. It's y'all's time with yours. I'm just thankful that we're able to get together. Whatever everybody wants to do is fine with me." She NEVER veered from that mindset. Not once.

Quite a difference from many.

She was true-blue saved by the grace of God. Her heart of stone had been changed to a heart of flesh way, way before I ever came into this world. The Lord let her live to be 90, staying in her own house, and fully able to take care of herself until the day the Lord called her home. She took her last breath right there in her own house.

Thanks for all the comments gents! Sure is amazing how many folks have our situation and many even worse.

JC that situation you described about your friend is disturbing and certainly strikes fear in me. I can see it already. I have to strongly guard against my parents impact on my marriage. Even then, it’s still an issue. I truly hope I can make sure I stay out of my kids way.

Been there with my pappy. Leukemia raged him for 3 years. Was a shell at 84 and took him to hospice even though he didn't want to go. We just couldn't take care of him. He died 2 days after. I cried like a damn baby.
