No more yearning for the future. No more wishing for football season, Autumn weather, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring, more money, that 2nd home in the mountains or condo at the beach, etc.
Life is too short to burden my peace and serenity with longing desires; worries about finances. I'll focus on practicing self-awareness, gratitude, acceptance and spirituality.
I'm 53. Sixty, sixty-five and seventy will be here in the blink of and eye. No more self-induced slavery of the rat race and worries about things I cannot control.

Great plan. Just include a strong relationship with Jesus. IF you miss that one, you will miss the one that counts. I'm in my late 70's now and working harder than ever on my relationship with Him.

I posted here a while back about a buddy that put off his colonoscopy after having symptoms, and when he finally got it done, they found a golf ball sized mass, and subsequent MRIs showed spots on other organs. He's stage 4 and started chemo a couple of weeks ago.
I've known this guy since we were kids. We're about the same age. He's pretty much the only person besides family that I keep in contact with from my hometown. He's really opening my eyes to the here and now mentality. Can't worry about what happens tomorrow...

That is terrible for your buddy. I tell everyone I know who is around 50 and putting off a colonoscopy to go ahead and do it. It is nowhere near as bad as people think it will be.
Maybe starting another topic here but unless I had kids I needed to be there for for some time period I'm not sure I'd go for chemo with stage four cancer in multiple organs. I'd probably opt for palliative care when needed and spend my remaining time getting affairs in order and doing what I could that I enjoyed. Chemo will likely ensure that whatever time he has left will be spent in abject misery.

I just recently turned 63. That has been my focus, too. My wife and I became part of a REALLY good church 8-9 years ago and this has been enormously helpful. Life is, more and more, one day at a time. Not one of us are promised tomorrow.
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."
1 Timothy 2:5-6
For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the witness for this proper time.
Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

Amen, Junkyard. Struggle with those things myself. You put it very eloquently and I wish you all the best. Anxiety and worrying about tomorrow and what you can’t control are hard to shake.

Go to the show, have a few beers, laugh at Toasty, and have great sex with your wife. Don't come back here Saturday posting about how grateful you are for life as this place is not a daily devotionals page. If you have not figured out what you should be grateful for by now, tough.
Have a great weekend!

Never have, never will. Lol. Enjoy the show. I'm gonna go see the Hoodoo Gurus in September. That should be a good show. It'll be the first show I've seen in a while. Busy summer with a sick dad that recently passed away, thankfully for him, and a new job gig. Things slowly returning to SNAFU.

Thanks. He was in sad, sad shape the last three months with a failing body and dementia. Grateful that he's gone on to the great gig in the sky.

Buy your arse a Peloton.
3 or 4 45 minute rides a week will let you eat all the carbs you want.
Got me 1 in May. Sleep like a baby, resting heart rate is now less than 60,BP is 100/85. Eat all the pizza I want 2 times a week.
Most beneficial thing is that it has really helped with the grief from my wife's death. When I start feeling blue, I jump on it and ride for 45 minutes.
