"This is the story of Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive..."

Getting a jump on Toasty as that was the song that came to my head this morning when thinking of our beloved Dawgs.   And, in particular, our much maligned Carson Cavinder...er, Beck.

His game recently reminds me a bit of my golf game.  I KNOW I can play very well and sometimes I do.  However, many times, I'll have 3-4 blow-up holes and before I know it, any chance of a good round is down the drain.  So, I get passed my angst and resolve myself to a crappy round.   At that point, I just start swinging without any hesitation or particular demands...and dang, there you go...4-5 pars or birdies in a row once it doesn't matter anymore.

Sure, he's getting some drops, and, we all just love Bobo and his play calling, right?

Personally, I think there are multiple things going on here at once.   You can argue we don't have Ladd and Brock...there's no denying they had a huge impact last year.   (Go watch some film at pay attention to where balls were thrown that both of them caught).   Their great hands and catch radius made our man look better than he was many times.  BUT, don't be fooled we have some weapons on this team that appears to be not quite taken advantage of...    Are they all flawed in some way?  Yep....but, they're still pretty dang good.

As much as I don't Love (or really even like) Bobo's playcalling this year (or last) it has been better than the execution.  Most of our offensive issues have boiled down to 4 things:   Poor throws by Beck, Drops by receivers, wrong routes by receivers, and lastly playcalling.   Again, let me be clear here, I don't love the playcalling...screens, screens, screens....but, the playcalling would look MUCH better with better execution.   PLease don't fall victim to the:   "no one was open" narrative...that's pure BS!!   There were MAYBE 2-3 plays SAturday where there wasn't a clearly open receiver.   MANY, MANY times Beck hit a check down that was wide open AFTER another guy is/was wide open deep.  The man is "in his head" at the moment and I don't know exactly what will or can change that.

While I just said we have some weapons, we don't have the type that are selfish about the ball...meaning, we have guys that get open and have decent hands, but, they aren't going to fight for it and take it away from the defender.   That's where we miss a Colby Young.

Last comments here:    We CAN still compete and win with anyone....will we?   Throw three INT's against Ole Mrs or UT and we will quickly find out what a beat down is going to look like.    Either of those games can get out of hand quickly if we give them cheap scores.  Still, I'm not too worried about beating either one....Ole Mrs. will be a challenge with their home crown and DArt is on fire.   But, our defense is finally starting to act like a Dawgs defense.  If Beck can get his mind right, we should win both.   We shall see.

Last last comment-----I truly hope Kirby is ready to do what needs to be done after this season.

Last Last Last comment -----I'm ready to see way more of Sacovie White.

Good summary the situation. I think the Dawgs have shown improvement in a lot of areas since Bama, just not QB. Beck doesn't need to be otherworldly, just efficient.

My thoughts on Beck.

1.  We were told all of Fall camp that he was going to be the #1 player drafted, was the leading Heisman candidate and the best qb to play at Georgia in a long time.  Either we were blatantly lied to or he has gone completely to shit since the season started.  He has 17 tds and 11 ints with a QBR of 74.6.  If he played for UF or UT we would be laughing at their fans if they thought he was good.

2.  It is obvious McConkey and Bowers made him look good last season.  With them gone, we are seeing what he really is.  The receivers aren't special but when they do manage to get open Beck consistently throws the ball behind them or too high.

3.  His field vision isn't bad, it is completely lacking.  He throws to receivers in double coverage when there is another receiver who is open.  I think if there is any pressure from anywhere whatsoever he panics and tries to force the ball to a receiver he has made up his mind to throw to no matter what is going on or checks down to the RB.  He is the king of the check down.  If the first two receivers are covered at all he is going to dump the ball to the RB or a WR standing 4 yds behind the LOS.

4.  I think he got his NIL money, his Lambo SUV and his Miami girlfriend and he doesn't care anymore.  He's busy living the high life and has no reason to concern himself with playing well.  I'm sure some team will draft him at some point but I think it will be a very late round.  No NFL scout could possibly think Beck is a legit NFL qb prospect.

Finally, everyone here knows I don't love Bobo and that hasn't changed at all.  He still calls games exactly the same way he has for 20 years everywhere he's been so opposing DCs know exactly what to look for from him.  That said, I'm not sure Monken, Sark, Kiffen or any supposed offensive genius could get much more out of Carson Beck.  Beck is simply not very good.

Bobo calling way too many INT's and dropped passes.

That said, we are in a great position on spite of his calls.

FIFY.

Actually, that's a great comment...he doesn't have to be great.   Honestly, I have more of a problem with his leadership than his play.  He's a 180 from Stet in leadership.

There really weren't many dropped passes Saturday.  The INTs were all squarely on Beck, there weren't any tipped balls or batted balls that were intercepted either.  Beck made sure he threw the ball directly to defenders.

We are still in a good position but Ole Miss and UT will make us pay dearly if Beck keeps playing like he is.  UF is not a good team, they couldn't capitalize on the mistakes we made, Ole Miss and UT would have scored three tds off of the INTs.

PPG is right at the top in conference play, although I know a lot here don't care about stats.

It seems like an odd choice for a college athlete.  There are a lot of other cars I would have like better as a college senior.

South Carolina is the best team Ole Miss has beaten....think about that.

Normally, I'd see what you are saying but SC looked more than legit Saturday night.  Ole Miss scored 63 on Arky.  I know Arky isn't great but it is hard to score 63 points on anyone.

Sc surprised for sure....and ARK, you never seem to know which Arky team is going to show up...that said, Laner will run it up on anyone if he can..

I think we all can agree, we can't keep having 3 int games.

OM threw deep  a good bit at Ark.  Throwing deep on UGA is not going to work all game.  Sure they'll hit some shots but it won't be enough to beat UGA.

Bama could run it and MW13 was not near being healthy so there deep game balls worked as well as most everything else.

  Dawgs win.

on #3, actually I don't see him checking down enough. Last year he did a lot. I see him panicking, locking on a receiver and forcing things that aren't there. I WISH he would check down. He has left a lot on the field by trying to do TOO much.

I was trying to NOT be too critical of Beck...but, it isn't easy.   I think he lit it up in camp for 2-3 reasons:   1.  No game pressure.  2.  He had two more legit targets with a wide catch radius that were healthy.   3.  Our corners have been unimpressive...at least until the last two games.

Beck is not good...he's done enough for us to win a couple of times, but, we could have won easily if he had just kept us out of the negatives.

Also, sorry to disagree with my buddy MillDawg...but, I call him "Check Down Beck" for a reason.   He's checking down throws where guys are wide open.   Then, he tries to make throws where guys are NOT open.  Most of the time...toward the end of games when he's made plays is when he goes with his primary receiver.   To JC's point above...he is not seeing the field well at all.

If he hadn't gotten a ton of NIL money I would be much more understanding but these prima donnas are getting paid HUGE money to play football.  They should be very good at it and when they aren't they should expect to hear about it.  The days of college athletes not being booed or called out for poor play because they are amateurs and are playing for an education and love of the game are over.

That ridiculous black crap on his face made his horrible play even more disgusting.  He was showing off as some sort of badass and he played like a girl.  If he had put any more black on his face he would have been facing all sorts of internet criticism for playing in black face and being a racist.

powerful.............

I'm not a psychiatrist, per se, but only way to salvage Beck's career is to place him into a monastery to keep him away from Hanna......she done messed up his mechanics.... he might be too far gone at this point.  It's worse than I thought......blondes are kryptonite for collegiate QBs.

Speaking of forcing an INT with two checkdowns available. Can't see as much maybe right here but both of these were wide open and I think I recall Kirk even pointing this play out during the broadcast.
